5 BATHROOM ETIQUETTE FROM DATING TO MARRIAGE

Here are our five tips for better bathroom etiquette:

  1. Put the Seat Down. This has been fodder for comedians probably since the invention of the toilet, and the reason it’s funny is because it’s true. Women don’t like coming into the bathroom, especially in the middle of the night, only to sit down, realize too late that the seat’s up, and then park their rear in the toilet water. Let’s be honest; you wouldn’t like it much either. Therefore, one of the main rules of bathroom etiquette is to put the seat down after using the toilet. It’s easy. It takes about one second, maybe less. Best of all, you won’t be getting in trouble. Sure, it might take some time to get used to it if you’ve been living alone or with just guys for a long time, but keep reminding yourself.

  2. Watch the Sink and the Mirror. If you are brushing your teeth in the morning and evening, as you should, be aware of the toothpaste-filled spit that often gets everywhere. If you don’t clean it up immediately, it can harden and be difficult to remove. Cleaning up after yourself, whether you are brushing your teeth, showering, shaving, or doing anything else in the bathroom is just decent manners, so do it.

  3. Remember to Flush. Honestly, that doesn’t really need much else. You don’t want to see her business, and she doesn’t want to see yours. Flush it down whether it is yellow or brown.

  4. Sharing Space. If you are like most guys, you probably don’t need to have too much room in the bathroom. You have the few products that you use, and that’s about it. She probably has more (that’s not always the case, but it often is), so come up with an arrangement where both of you have the space you need, and try not to encroach on one another’s space too much.

  5. The Quirks. Lots of people have their little quirks about the bathroom, and that’s something you will have to work out once you start dating someone seriously. Does the toilet paper go over or under (the correct answer is over, at least for civilized folks)? Find out what the quirks might be and then work it out so you are both happy.
