Registered South African charities and NGOs could win $250 000 for innovations that can improve lives. If you work at an NGO, a non-profit organisation or charity, Google has some good news for you. The search engine giant has announced the Google Impact Challenge South Africa, putting out the call for NGOs, non-profit organisations and charities to submit innovations and ideas that can improve lives. Google says its committing $2 million (R25 million) in grants for ideas that the Challenge’s judging panel deems worthy of being funded. The judging panel includes the likes of HuffPost SA editor-at-large Ferial Haffajee, Google SA country director Luke Mckend, singer and entrepreneur Yvonne Chaka Chaka and TV personality Maps Maponyane. “This is the first time we are running a Google Impact Challenge in Africa. The  Google Play Store  has seemingly removed the UC Browser app from its  online marketplace  months after the Alibaba-owned browser was allegedly transmitting personal information of its users to a server located in China. Google, however, has yet to comment on the incident and it remains unclear whether or not UC Browser’s removal from the Play Store is related to the privacy issue facing the  mobile browser. A Twitter user who claims to be working for UC Browser posted what seemed like a clarifying statement, saying the browser’s dismissal from Google’s online marketplace is a temporary matter and will only last for a few days. Details found in files that were accidentally uploaded to the internet by Apple suggest that it is working on a feature that will be able to tell what is in a scene and adjust the settings to take the best possible image. The creators of several Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) have criticised Apple's decision to remove their products from its App Store in China. VPNs allow users to hide their IP addresses and access online material that might be blocked by internet filters. At least three were removed from the App Store over the weekend. Apple said it was legally required to remove the apps because they did not comply with new regulations. Which VPNs have been affected? ExpressVPN, VyprVPN, StarVPN each received notice from Apple on Saturday that their products would be removed from the App Store.  Apple Inc ( AAPL.O ) is removing virtual private network (VPN) services from its app store in China, VPN service providers said on Saturday, accusing the U.S. tech giant of bowing to pressure from Beijing to comply with stringent cyberspace regulations.
