Mourinho Charged over referee Comments

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was on Thursday charged with misconduct over comments he made about the referee in charge of this month's Liverpool game, the Football Association has announced. United's outspoken Portuguese boss faces a disciplinary hearing after questioning referee Anthony Taylor's suitability to take charge of the October 17 game at Anfield. The Altrincham-based official's appointment for the Premier League derby had led former English top flight referee Keith Hackett to claim the appointment would place undue pressure on Taylor. And when those comments were put to Mourinho ahead of the match, the United boss said: "I think Mr Taylor is a very good referee but I think somebody with intention is putting such a pressure on him that I feel that it will be difficult for him to have a very good performance". Mourinho was contacted by the FA for his observations on the comments and the body has now charged him with misconduct. The cla

Samsung Note 7 crisis causes profits to plunge, but investors are still bullish on the stock

Shares of  Samsung Electronics  finished higher Thursday despite the Note 7 recall crisis causing a  96 percent plunge for the operating profit of the company's mobile division in the third quarter. Rather than a sell-off of Samsung's stock on the back of earnings, investors remain bullish for a number of reasons. Profit plunge baked into price Earlier this month, Samsung had already warned that it would take a more than  $5 billion hit to operating profit  from the third quarter of 2016 up to the first quarter of 2017. Samsung had slashed its operating profit guidance, with final results on Thursday coming in line with expectations. The South Korean electronics giant now said that it aims to boost fourth-quarter earnings through its flagship Galaxy S7 smartphone as well as lower-tier models. Investors are expecting the third quarter to be the bottom for Samsung. Also, if the fire issues had not plagued the Note 7, Samsung would have shipped around 11 million of th

Senate orders Customs to render 3 years account in 48 hours

Less   than 24 hours after Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun, revealed how revenue-generating agencies engage in “high level corruption” especially the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), which she described as “cohesive crooks hard to break,” Senate has commenced investigation into its activities. The Senate Committee on Customs and Excise also dropped hints that after the Customs’ probe, it would beam its searchlight on the ports. Nigeria’s Upper Legislative Chamber has given Customs 48 hours to provide records of waivers since 2013 and also details of how it handles seized cigarettes and alcohol, record of auctioned overtime and seized cargoes. On Tuesday, the minister said revenue-generating agencies are frustrating government with “non-remittances” which she described as a big issue.” Regardless, Senate, through its Committee on Customs and Excise, chaired by Hope Uzodinma, has launched a comprehensive probe into  Customs’ activities with the hope of blocking  revenue leakage

The Hammers 🔨 knocks out the Blues to progress to quarter finals

West Ham invigorated their stuttering season with a 2-1 home victory over fierce London rivals Chelsea to surge into the English League Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday. In the build-up to the clash there were fears of violence between West Ham and Chelsea fans, and a heavy police presence was in place outside the Hammers' new London Stadium home. There was no large-scale disorder prior to the game at the former Olympic stadium, where West Ham - players and fans - have struggled to settle since leaving Upton Park in the summer, but there were reports of seats torn out and thrown between opposing supporters afterwards. Chelsea manager Antonio Conte - looking uncharacteristically casual in sweatshirt and tracksuit bottoms - made several changes to the side that humiliated Jose Mourinho and Manchester United 4-0 on Sunday in the Premier League, with skipper John Terry returning after injury. It was the veteran defender who had the first real chance of the game, his effort afte

Manchester United wins Manchester City to make it 6 matches without a win for City

Manchester United made it six games without a victory for Pep Guardiola as Juan Mata's second half goal took Manchester United through to the quarter finals of the EFL Cup. Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola approached the game in different manners as the former opted for a full strength side while the latter decided to give run-outs to youngsters Pablo Maffeo and Aleix Garcia. It was a match of very few chances and would certainly not be classed as a classic Manchester derby. However, despite being dull in large parts, the match got off to a lively start and Mourinho was almost cursing his luck - and his players - within the first minute of the game. Jesus Navas went down the right in the first minute and crossed for Iheanacho who could only guide his close range header over the bar. That was as good as it got for the first half in terms of chances, but thankfully, the second period livened up. Slightly.  In the 49th minute, Willy Caballero had to save the first shot on ta

Former president's wife Mrs Patience Jonathan supporters storm the court

Women numbering over 100 on Wednesday stormed the Federal High Court in Lagos, chanting solidarity songs on the freezing order placed on the bank accounts of ex-First Lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had on September 22 ordered the freezing of some bank accounts belonging to Jonathan. The Commission had said the action was due to the ongoing investigation into the alleged money laundering charge preferred against her. Meanwhile, Jonathan in a fundamental rights suit instituted against the EFCC, is asking for a court order, directing the unfreezing of her accounts. She is also claiming the sum of 200 million dollars against the commission as damages for allegedly infringing on her fundamental rights. On Wednesday, women numbering over 100, who dressed in traditional attire with head gears, stormed the premises of the Federal High Court in Lagos to protest the freezing order. The News Agen

Henrikh Mkhitaryan already being ushered out the Man United door?

Mourinho giving up on Mkhitaryan Henrikh Mkhitaryan arrived at Manchester United with much excitement: a £30 million price tag and the Bundesliga Player of the Year, but the Sun believes that after just six months, Jose Mourinho is prepared to cash-in on the Armenian. The Red Devils boss has handed the 27-year-old just one start since he transferred from Borussia Dortmund with a dramatic exit in January now being floated. It would represent one of the most drastic declines for a top class player in recent memory with a host of clubs likely to form a less-than-orderly queue as one of the most gifted playmakers in Europe becomes available in the market.
